SDC Education Network

Welcome to the SDC's Education Network website!

The Education Network is composed of SDC employees responsible for education or related topics. It is open to our colleagues in partner organisations as well as to the general public. The Network’s goal is to improve the SDC's work in the area of education by:

  • Providing information on the SDC's support for education as well as on its achievements and those of its partners.
  • Encouraging synergies between bilateral and multilateral cooperation agencies and between action at the national, regional, and international levels.
  • Facilitating learning through interaction and the sharing of documentation and experiences.
  • Sharing knowledge on current issues facing the education sector.
  • Facilitating access to practical instruments and resources.
  • Promoting a sense of collegiality.

New on the website

Welcome to Valerie Liechti!
Since 1 July 2010, Valérie Liechti succeeded to Fabienne Lagier as head of the “Education Focal Point”. Valérie is highly committed to education and development issues. Some of you might already know her as she closely collaborated with the Association for the promotion of non-formal education (APENF) in Burkina Faso. She is an economist and she specialised, while doing her thesis, on capacities and right to education issues. With her nomination, the SDC’s commitment for basic education for all is assured. Fabienne is already facing new challenges in the field of education and we will have further opportunities to collaborate. We are looking forward to!

The 2010 programme for the Education Network is available in French and English.
It reflects the priority issues expressed by its members together with the SDC's objectives in this area. The key issues are: 1) developing a holistic approach to basic education that takes into account both formal and non-formal education, responds to the educational and vocational needs of children, young people and adults, and can be applied in a variety of situations (including cases of marginalised groups); 2) measuring the results of education; and 3) rural and agricultural education and training. Other issues will also be addressed, such as the decentralisation and local governance of education; financing; and education in emergency situations.
