About the Education Network

Education is one of SDC’s seven priority issues defined in the “Federal Council Dispatch on the Continuation of Technical Cooperation and Financial Assistance for Developing Countries” adopted by the Swiss Parliament for the 2009-2012 period. SDC supports basic education for children, young people and adults, with a particular focus on the role of vocational training, in accordance with the SDC Guidelines for Basic Education and Basic Skills Development (2009, in collaboration with the Employment and Income network).

Main objectives

  • To contribute to and encourage policy dialogue at the international and regional levels
  • To provide information on SDC’s support for education as well as on its partners and  its achievements
  • To encourage synergies between bilateral and multilateral cooperation
    agencies and between action undertaken at the national, regional, and international levels
  • To facilitate learning through interaction and the sharing of documentation and experiences
  • To share knowledge on current issues facing the education sector
  • To facilitate access to education experts and instruments.

    2011 priorities

  • Contribute to the drafting of the Federal Council Dispatch on the Continuation of Technical Cooperation and Financial Assistance for Developing Countries for the 2013-2016 period;
  • Present and debate the Education for All 2011 Global Monitoring Report on education in
    conflict zones;
  • National languages and multilingualism in teaching and learning, Discussion group in May/June
    2011;
  • Define the core skills required for lifelong learning. ADEA triennial meeting in Ouagadougou,
    December 2011.

    Measuring the achievements of education and training: throughout the year, an internal SDC working group will look into the issue of measuring the achievements and effectiveness of education-related assistance.
